This page covers the ending of the Solo Leveling manhwa, well beyond where the anime stops.
Solo Leveling ends with Jinwoo defeating Antares — and then undoing the war. He asks the Rulers to use the Cup of Reincarnation to rewind time, and fights the revived Monarchs alone in a dimensional gap for 27 years while only about two years pass on Earth.
He returns to a world without gates where no one remembers what he did. In the side stories he marries Cha Hae-In and they have a son, Sung Suho — the protagonist of the sequel.

The Final Battle
The main story builds to a war between the Shadow Monarch and the remaining Monarchs, led by Antares, the Monarch of Destruction. Jinwoo wins it. With the Rulers fighting alongside him, he defeats Antares in the confrontation the entire series has been building toward.
But the victory is not clean. Large parts of the world have been destroyed, countless people have died — including Jinwoo’s father, Sung Il-Hwan, and several of his allies — and his sister Jinah has been traumatised by a monster attack at her school.

Why Jinwoo Turns Back Time
Winning is not enough for him. The Monarchs are not permanently gone, and the people he lost are still lost. So he asks the Rulers to use the Cup of Reincarnation one final time.
The Cup is a relic created by the Absolute Being. Each activation rewinds time by roughly ten years. It has limits: it wears out with use, and it does not affect the Monarchs or the Rulers — they keep their memories and their power across the reset.
The Rulers warn him of exactly that. Rewinding time will revive every Monarch, fully aware of the previous timeline, and the Cup will be exhausted afterwards. If Jinwoo fails, there is no second attempt. He chooses to do it anyway.
Twenty-Seven Years Alone
Jinwoo wakes up in his younger self’s body, in a world where gates have not yet appeared. He takes a short time to live as an ordinary student — and then seals himself inside a dimensional gap and fights the revived Monarchs there, one by one, so that none of them ever reaches Earth.
The war lasts 27 years from his perspective. Because of how time moves in the gap, only about two years pass in the outside world. He leaves Antares for last.
Our read
The title becomes literal. For the whole series, “solo” describes a mechanic — the only player who can level up. The ending turns it into a choice. Jinwoo gives up every relationship he built so that nobody else has to fight, and spends nearly three decades at war where no one will ever see it. Whether that reads as heroic or bleak is exactly why the ending divides readers.
Coming Home to a World That Never Knew
When he returns, it is to a world without gates, magic beasts, or hunters. Nobody remembers the war — or him. Because two years have passed outside but nearly three decades for him, he has to disguise how much he has aged, gradually altering his appearance so no one notices.
The other characters live different lives in the new timeline. Thomas Andre, the world’s strongest hunter in the original timeline, becomes a champion wrestler instead. Korea’s former hunters live ordinary, safer lives.
In the side stories, Jinwoo finds his way back to Cha Hae-In. They marry, and have a son — Sung Suho, who becomes the protagonist of the sequel.
The Detail Most Summaries Skip
The reset does not end the story as neatly as it appears. Two things undercut the happy ending.
First, the Rulers are not simply grateful. Jinwoo saved them from an endless war — but a being powerful enough to wipe out every Monarch alone is also a being they cannot control, and the side stories show them treating him with fear as much as thanks.
Second, the gates come back. Roughly two decades after the reset, gates begin appearing again — a new threat that Jinwoo’s sacrifice did not prevent. That is the setup for Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
Why the Ending Divides Fans
- The case against: the reset erases every relationship, rivalry, and act of growth from the main story. Characters readers followed for 179 chapters no longer remember any of it.
- The case for: it is the only ending consistent with who Jinwoo is. He fought from the first chapter to protect his family; undoing their suffering at his own expense is the logical end of that motivation.
- The pacing: 27 years of war happen almost entirely off-page. Many readers wanted to see more of it.
Has the Anime Reached the Ending?
No. The Cup of Reincarnation has not appeared in the anime. Season 2 ended with the Jeju Island arc, around chapter 110, and the ending sits at chapter 179 plus the side stories. See our manhwa vs anime guide for where to read ahead.
